“XConcept System”( XCS )

XConcept System is a unique innovative system, with a requested patent and industrial design license*, which offers a number of advantages compared to the standard principles, by which climbing walls are built.

* Support system for artificial climbing walls. Patent application number 110606/01.03.2010. Utility model application number 1748/01.03.2010. Devices for climbing. Industrial design application number 1. 001655499-0001; 2. 0016555499-0002.

ADVANTAGES
Allows for additional reinforcement of the holds with a second bolt on 80% of the XCULT holds, and this way ensuring a greater safety for the climbers by avoiding the possibility of rotation of the hold while climbing and eventual over tightening of the hold.  (Pic.1)

Allows the possibility of installing only holds with a 4 mm bolt (screw-on type). This permits for much more technical climbing, available until now only for plywood walls. At the same time there is no need to drill any additional holes on the surface of the wall.  (Pic.2)

Allows for two handhold or foothold combinations per hold position, which means a much wider range of technical climbing moves.  (Pic.3)

Allows for every boulder wall route to be described, shared, doubled and discussed by everyone climbing the same wall model around the world. This means:
- Creating a virtual library of described routes and sharing them online on the web.
- Joint projects among climbers from different destinations.
- Facilitation for route setters on competitions or in indoor rock climbing gyms.

HOW DOES “XConcept System” WORK?
The system is invented so that every hold position (Pic. 4), apart from having a central hole with a nut for a 10 mm bolt includes also 12 holes with a nut for a 4 mm bolt. The holes are positioned in a circumference around the central opening. This way the hold can be placed in 12 fixed positions. In addition, every hold position and every hold from the XCULT product range has an individual identification number.
Every hold position resembles the dial of a clock, which makes it possible to describe the precise position of every hold on the wall. For example:

    Position number: B 37  (Pic.1)
    Hold number: 34 at 2 o’clock

ELEMENTS
XConcept System
is based on the specific characteristics of its 3 elements:

I.    Hold Position (Pic.4)
II.    Fastener Disk (Pic. 5a and 5b)
III.    Climbing Hold (Pic. 1, 7, 9)

               I. HOLD POSITION
XConcept System is built on 3 climbing hold position types:
- Round position with a 30 cm diameter. (Pic. 4) All holds from the XCULT product line are compatible with that position avoiding the probability for the hold edges to stick out of the position or make the 360o rotation impossible.
- Round Position with a 22 cm diameter. All XCULT product line holds (from small to large) are compatible with that position.
- Rectangular Position with dimensions 26/11 cm. (Pic. 6) Specially created for the area around the edges of the climbing wall aiming at its more adequate use. This position suggests only 2 options for placing the holds and there is a special hold series made for it.

The Round Position for holds (Pic. 4) consists of:
    1  A central hole for a 10 mm bolt.
2  12 holes for a 4 mm bolt positioned in a circumference around the central hole.
3  Marker - indicating the 12th hole allowing to count the remaining holes.
4  Individual identification number for each hold position.

The Rectangular hold position (Pic. 6) consists of:
1  Central hole for a 10 mm bolt.
    2  2 holes for a 4 mm bolt.
3  Marker indicating hole number 1.
    4  Hole number 2.
5  Individual identification number for the hold position.

   II. FASTENER DISK
The Fastener disk (Pic. 5a and 5b) is an XCULT invention* protected by an industrial design license and a patent request, which allows the installation of different hold types and their additional fixating with a second bolt.
There are 2 kinds of fastener disks - one for the Round Position (Pic. 5a) and one for the Rectangular Position (Pic. 5b), which consist of:

1.  A body casted out of PVC.
2.  12 nuts for a 4 mm bolt built-in the body.
3.  A central nut for a 10 mm bolt.
4.  Holes for the installation of the fastener disk on the backside of the wall at the hold mounting position.

* Support system for artificial climbing walls. Patent application number 110606/01.03.2010. Utility model application number 1748/01.03.2010. Devices for climbing. Industrial design application number 1. 001655499-0001; 2. 0016555499-0002.

   III. HOLDS
Each hold from the XCULT product line is part of the
XConcept System. There are 3 types according to the means of installation:

- Type 1: With a 10 mm bolt hole opening and a second opening for a 4 mm bolt, which corresponds to holes located in the circumference of the hold position. This type includes all hold types from the XXL, XL, L dimensions and the greater part from M. (Pic. 1)

- Type 2: Holds that cannot be additionally attached to any of the hole openings, located in a circumference. (Pic. 7)
This type is equipped with a marker (Pic. 8), used to direct to some of the holes located in the circumference. It includes all smaller holds for a 10 mm bolt.

- Type 3: Holds meant to be mounted to the holes located in the circumference of the hold position (Pic. 9). This  type is equipped with a marker (Pic. 10) indicating to one of its holes for a 4 mm bolt and it also serves to define the placement on the hold position.
One of the main advantages of the
XConcept System is precisely the possibility of installing this type of climbing holds, which can offer an assortment for various and much more technical boulder problems.
